Argh, my laptop is still broken from Saturday. I want to cry!
Accidentally did some exercise yesterday from my journey from Switzerland to the UK. One of our bags were 18kg and I carried it around. Surprise dead lifts and arm workouts.
Eccentric Training for Mass, Strength, and Flexibility
Eccentric training refers to the negative portion of any movement. At this time the muscle lengthen in comparison to the concentric portion of the lift in which it shortens.
Most people only pay attention to the concentric portion of the lift, or in other words, getting the weight up. They usually forget about the negative portion of the lift and will often just let it fall back down.
However, for best results both portions of the movement are important. In fact, the eccentric portion has been shown to be possibly more important than the concentric portion in creating both muscular mass and strength (1).
Further research is now showing that eccentric training may also prove to have more benefits in that it increases flexibility. Although more studies need to be done on the subject, research may soon prove that eccentric training may be more beneficial than regular static stretching for injury prevention (2).
So what’s to be taken from all this? Well, don’t drop the weight. Concentrate on putting as much effort on bringing it down as much as you do on bringing it up. If you don’t believe this is worth the effort than try it. I’m sure you will soon come to find that it’s more exhausting than performing just the concentric portion of the movement.
Take this advice and get bigger, stronger, and more flexible. Doesn’t get any easier than that.
Do these with a 3-5lb dumbbell in your hand. SO HARD
Mason twists are a fantastic ab workout because they work every area of the core. Incorporate 50 reps into your daily routine and you’ll have awesome abs in no time!!
one of my favourite ab workouts!
Um, I feel that wearing heels at a young age gave my feet those arched ballet-feet form. Most people find them kind of strange looking.
But whatever keeps you going and active is a positive in my opinion! Sometimes, it will literally take me an hour or two to get myself to go for a jog or do a fitness video. But when I put on some music and do an hour of just “dancing”, it gives me the energy to do more exercise. I see it as an elongated warm-up. I don’t know… it may help? It works for me and gives me the energy to be motivated.
I mean, in the end, whatever gets your heart racing at least a little is better than sitting on the sofa all day! Baby steps.
I bought a leotard the other day and I can still fit into a European size S! Joy! Well, it is a stretchable material so I may be pushing it a bit.
Although going back to the UK might mean that my priorities with getting fit will subside a little, I am kind of excited to go return. I miss dressing up and putting on fierce make-up. My strong-brow hasn’t made an appearance to the public in a while.
I am so glad I woke up to this being cooked! Especially after yesterday’s booze and Chinese take-away. I feel so much better.
Look at all the colourful vegetables! Dad knows me well.
The best advice I can give you is: you’re young and it’s never too early to start learning about good nutrition and proper exercise. I wish I wasn’t stubborn at that age and chose quick and easy ways to lose weight because it had caused me years of fast weight gain and fast weight loss- I never had consistency.
This will be a short response because I have the tendency to ramble, but I am sure you’ll find better advice on other fitblrs who were immensely successful. Educate yourself on good calories and start slow with exercise (walking, jogging etc.) Do a LOT of research, but always listen to your body. Eliminate things like soda and junk food, but REMEMBER it’s okay to have some sneaky bites and satisfy your cravings… in moderation!
Perhaps the most important thing to note down is to be patient, because change takes time. Don’t expect to wake up one week later looking like a Victoria’s Secret Angel! We all have to start somewhere.
AHAHAHA how ROUGH do I look!
Today I woke up SORE, which was expected. My extended family and I went to my cousins workplace for their 50th anniversary celebration. FREE EVERYTHING! So of course, I had a beer and a few glasses of wine and felt tipsy instantly. The weather went from the perfect amount of sun to a storm and when we got home, I passed out. I think my tolerance for alcohol has drastically decreased.
I woke up to be told that we had ordered Chinese food (WHAT! Since when did my family order food!) But it almost seemed perfect for the gloomy weather. So, yeah, I did have a bit of a binge day, but I’m not going to cry about it and just drink litres of water until my peehole hurts.
If anything good came out of today, it’s that we didn’t end up going to Zurich for a night out (because that would have been catastrophic) AND, I JUST CANNOT WAIT UNTIL IT’S TOMORROW SO I CAN DO SOME EXERCISE AND EAT SOME LOVELY FRUITS AND YOGHURT AND BE ACTIVE AND WEAR TRAINERS AND SWEAT!
